![]() ![]() If you're truly starting from scratch, I'd recommend supplementing those exercises with practice in more traditional ear training apps to help soften the difficulty curve - you can find various mobile apps that only cost a few dollars. Being able to recognize these kinds of things as you hear them is imo the most difficult but also the most important skill in the entire course, since it makes it easier to analyze the music you personally listen to for ideas/learning, and to jot down whatever ideas you might hum or imagine in your head. BB1 has you transcribing 2 bar loops regularly, and BB2 gets into transcribing melodic lines and 4 bar loops with all sorts of chord changes and rhythms going on. Most ear training apps focus on identifying single intervals or chords in isolation, and only some get into common chord progressions. Where BB1 was still really valuable for me, and where BB2 really starts kicking my butt, is the emphasis on music transcription challenges.
